
Appointment of Dr. Jorge Sanchez-Guerrero
as Rheumatology Division Chief for UHN/MSH
It is our pleasure to welcome Jorge Sanchez-Guerrero as our Rheumatology Division Chief effective July 1, 2011.
Dr. Jorge Sanchez-Guerrero was born in Mexico. He received his medical degree from the University of Guadalajara, and trained in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the Instituto Nacional de la Nutricion in Mexico. He completed a Master of Science Degree from Harvard Medical School. He then did Post-Doctoral training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was a staff Internist and Rheumatologist at the Instituto Nacional de la Nutricion 1987-2011, being the Head of the Department of Immunology and Rheumatology 2002-2011. Dr. Sanchez-Guerrero moved to Toronto in June 2011 to take on the responsibilities as the Rheumatology Division Chief for UHN/MSH.
His main area of research is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. He is a member of the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC), and of the Medical-Scientific Advisory Council of the Lupus Foundation of America. In 2001, he received the Edmund L. Dubois Award from the American College of Rheumatology for his research in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. He has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
